Judy Hilgemann
For the All-Native
I grew up surrounded by art supplies and rain gear on the northwest coast of Vancouver Island, and have been drawing and painting ever since. I now live on the next island north, Haida Gwaii. Here I balance freelance work, family, and fine art; loving every minute of this busy and creative life. My projects include several published children’s books and numerous fine art commissions. I exhibit work regularly here on Haida Gwaii as well as in several galleries “off-island”.
My art reflects my deep reverence for the natural world, my love for children, my appreciation for community, hints of my Scandinavian roots, and my belief in the importance letting our imaginations run and play. I am an active member of the Federation of Canadian Artists.
