Karen Hateley
Illustrator, fine artist and sculptor, I am largely self-taught, my medium of the moment is watercolour and my subjects encompass a wide range, but I do have a great fondness for anything figurative.
I've always been a nonconformist and I tend to look at life from the inside out rather than from the outside in. My background is rich and diverse, and everything I have ever experienced finds its way into my paintings sooner or later in some form or another. Over the years I have enjoyed doing wood carving, logos, architectural drafting, clay sculpture and tiles. I love pure design and believe our lives can be our most elegant works of art.
My sculptures and paintings are in private collections across the country; paintings (some giclees) are available on my website online or can be seen at local art shows. I'm currently engaged in illustrating the first book in a series and I'm delighted by the creative challenges of illustration, discovering yet again that the act of creation has levels of collaboration that I had never imagined.
