Caroline Stengl

   Caroline Stengl is originally from Calgary, Alberta where she studied at the Alberta College of Art and Design for four years. She transferred to the University of Victoria to complete an art education degree and enjoy the coast. She graduated in 2003 and has been working since then as an art teacher for the Saanich Adult Education Centre and the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria. Caroline began drawing and painting at a very early age, influenced and encouraged by artistic family members. So far her favourite subject matter for artwork is nature, landscapes, marine wildlife, portraits, circus characters and expressive abstract work.

Published work:
   ALENENEC Learning From Homeland - Completed illustrations, photography and layout for 200 page book about the Saanich First Nations education program where students explore traditional WSANEC territory, learn the SENCOTEN language, and learn traditional stories and knowledge about special places.

   SENCOTEN SNEPENEK (Stories) - Completed 32 full colour illustrations for a SENCOTEN language stories collection from the Saanich First Nations elders.

   Artist First Murals - Completed four digital layouts for 6x6 foot banner murals for the City of Victoria, currently on display in downtown Victoria, Centennial Square.

The Island Illustrators Society was established to foster a greater interest in the art of illustration. The society exists to benefit its members and clients through shared information regarding illustrative techniques, business ethics, and standards. In order to achieve these goals, the society makes partners of practicing illustrators, students, clients, and other interested parties.

Definition: Illustration is a piece of visual information, either drawn or photographed, which usually illustrates an accompanying text. The purpose of illustration is to enhance the ideas presented in the text, or simply, to transmit information or concepts visually.

The Island Illustrators Society does not act as an agent, but as a venue for you to contact any one of its members. You are invited to write to us at:
