  Anita Brunckhurst

I love Art and Science because I have a passion to discover more about the things I see. I am presently teaching Art/Nature programs as an employee of the District of Saanich at the Cedar Hill Arts Centre. I enjoy volunteering my time to assist the Garry Oak Ecosystems Recovery Team by creating outreach projects at public events. It has  been rewarding to lead large community mural projects involving over 100 people while teaching about ecosystems. I have also recently had fun offering programs at private schools and Summer Camps. For these programs, the Royal BC Museum loaned me amazing natural specimens to share and the University of Victoria loaned me a fantastic microscope to enable my students to examine the world more closely and illustrate detailed nature journals.

My husband has a Biology degree and loves research. Together we have worked to produce accurate illustrations and text to be used in schools in Washington State and here on Vancouver Island. It has been a joy to work with people on issues that unite us all as humans sharing the same planet.

While in the Seattle area, I was regularly commissioned to paint murals, still-lifes and portraits. I do most of my work in acrylics. I like having opportunities to use my art to bring people together... to emphasize, celebrate and share the things we have in common.

I enjoyed the opportunity to produce illustrations featured in a Science curriculum. The project was funded by CRD Water Services to be used in our local schools for grades 8-12. In Woodinville Washington I had the opportunity to produce interpretive signs for The Cottage Lake Elementary Outdoor Classroom - a learning space which includes demonstration gardens for the general public. My paintings have been accepted for display in the Sidney Fine Art Show and the Sooke Fine Art Show.
